Bronson boys hoops takes down Homer in offensive showcase – Coldwater Daily Reporter

BRONSON, MI. — The Bronson Vikings and the Homer Trojans faced off in what would become an offensive explosion for both teams as they took to the hardwood Thursday night for Big 8 conference action at Bronson High School.
Bronson used a massive first half to open up a 17 point lead at the half, a deficit the Trojans simply could not overcome as Bronson rolled to the 78-60 victory.
In all Bronson drilled 10 total three pointers, eight of which came in the first half, while four different players scored in double figures as the Vikings secured the much needed victory.
The game was back and forth from the very beginning, as the teams traded big buckets throughout a hectic first quarter. Bronson held the early advantage at the four minute mark after a beautiful Kam Brackett pass to Saylor Wotta pushed the Vikings to a slim 14-13 lead.
The teams continued to trade bucket for bucket throughout the opening stanza, as neither team seemed to be able to miss in a high scoring first quarter. Bronson managed to take a slim 24-23 lead after one quarter of play as Dominic Kiomento drilled a triple at the buzzer to push his Vikings into the lead.
The second quarter started with an exciting play as it was Brackett finding Kiomento on an alley-oop turned lay-up, which saw Kiomento fouled on the made shot. Kiomento converted the three point play the ole fashioned way, giving Bronson a 27-23 lead. Bronson extended their lead to 30-23 after a defensive stop and a Tanner Norton three pointer on the ensuing possession, leading to a Homer timeout with six minutes left in the half.
Bronson continued to build on their lead as the offensive explosion was kicked into another gear. The Vikings second quarter attack was led by 12 points from Aden Hathaway, eight points from Brackett, three from Kiomento and six from Norton as Bronson managed to outscore Homer 29-13, building a substantial 53-36 lead at the half.
The scoring slowed down ever so slightly coming out of the locker room, and it was Homer that took the slimmest of advantages in the slower style of play. The Trojans went on to outscore Bronson 13-11 in the third quarter, cutting the lead by just two points, as it was the Vikings leading 64-49 heading into the fourth quarter of play.
Homer battled to the very end but the Bronson offensive attack was not about to be bottled up. The Vikings went on to outscore the Trojans 14-11 in the fourth quarter as it was Bronson rolling to the 78-60 victory.
Bronson was led on the night by senior Aden Hathaway who poured in a game high 26 points, 19 of which came in the first half. Hathaway added four assists, six rebounds and two steals in the winning effort.
Sophomore guard Kam Brackett notched a big double double for the Vikings in the victory, scoring 12 points to go along with 11 assists. Brackett also chipped in with seven rebounds and two steals in a clutch effort for the second year man.
Sophomore Boston Bucklin also had a huge a game for the Vikings in their win, scoring 12 points to go along with five rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
Also hitting double digits for the Vikings was Saylor Wotta who poured in 10 points on the inside. Wotta added six rebounds and two blocks in the win.
Adding to the Viking win was Dom Kiomento with seven points, two rebounds and two steals; Tanner Norton with nine points, two rebounds and a steal; and Miles Losinski with two points, two rebounds and two steals.
The Homer Trojan attack was led on the night by senior Davey Mohn who had 24 points, senior Chase Bryant who added 11 points and junior Tyson Garrett who chipped in with 12 points.
With the loss Homer falls to 5-6 overall on the season and 1-4 in the Big 8 conference. The Trojans will look to bounce back from the loss Tuesday when they host the Union City Chargers.
With the much needed victory Bronson improves to 4-6 overall on the season and 2-3 in the Big 8 conference. Bronson will look to ride the momentum of their win into next Tuesday’s conference road battle with the Reading Rangers.
