Bette L. MacDonald, 81, of Taunton, MA, slipped peacefully away to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at The New England Homes for the Deaf in Danvers, MA.
Bette was born on October 10, 1941, in Winthrop, MA and attended the Horace Mann School for the Deaf where she met and later married Fred B. MacDonald of Quincy, MA. Throughout their 57 years of marriage, they raised 4 children in the home they cherished on Williams Street in Quincy, where Fred himself was born and raised. After 48 years, they moved to Taunton to be closer to their family.
Bette was a social butterfly and never let her deafness stop her. She loved to travel and take many pictures along the way, while visiting long distant family members and historical landmarks. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, going out to eat, watching game shows and playing bingo with her friends in the deaf community. She also liked collecting Betty Boop knick knacks.
Bette made many friends in her lifetime and will be dearly missed.
Bette is survived by her children: Jerry MacDonald of Taunton, Roxanne Murray of CA, Shirley Braley of Taunton and Scott MacDonald of CO; 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, her sisters Judi Rounds and Karen Gove and several nieces and nephews; was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, her parents, Guy B. Gove and Florence (Sherman) Gove and 2 siblings, Ruth Prunier and Guy Gove.
Any donations in Bette’s memory can be made to The New England Homes for the Deaf located in Danvers, MA.
Her private funeral arrangements are under the care of Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home 350 Somerset Ave., Taunton MA.
