DIGHTON – Dean V. Cronin, 74, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on December 12, 2022. He was the loving husband on Patricia (Vaz) Cronin, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage.
Dean was born in Attleboro and was the son of the late John F. Cronin and Eleanor (Tatro) Cronin.
Mr. Cronin was a graduate of Attleboro High School 66' and the University of Miami 70', where he also served as captain of the soccer team. Dean was employed as a gym teacher at the DR Regional High School where he coached both basketball and baseball for many years. He was most well-known as the owner of the Dighton Seafood Market and Hooked on Sports.  In his later years, Mr. Cronin eagerly served as a Selectman for the Town of Dighton where he helped to move the Town forward with many new programs and initiatives.  During retirement, he rekindled his love of collecting baseball cards and always found time to watch the birds and count the deer near his home. Dean was an avid New England sports fan and enjoyed both cheering and cursing his beloved Boston Red Sox. He also had a passion for the beach and the ocean, but most of all, Dean really dedicated his time to and was a huge supporter of youth sports and initiatives.  He always promoted programs to benefit youth team interaction and development and truly believed that the youth was our future. He will be remembered fondly by his family and many friends as a true gentleman who enjoyed serving his community.
The family wishes to acknowledge the kind and devoted care provided to Dean by the incredible staff of Compassionate Care Hospice of Taunton.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Erin Cronin and her long-time friend, Carlos Bonanca, whom Dean called his "main man", Shawn Cronin and his wife Laura; grandchildren, Hannah and Matthew Cronin, brother-in-law Flavio Vaz de Avila, and several nieces.  He was the brother of John "Jack" Cronin and his wife Lucy, Candace "Candy" Leblanc and her husband Russell, Karen Jollie, and Jolene Cronin and her husband Steven Ellsweig.
He was the brother-in-law of the late Stephen Jollie and Arthur L. Vaz, Jr.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Friday, December 16, 2022 from 4-7pm in the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave., Taunton. Prayers and Words of Remembrance will begin at 6:45pm.
