Tony Khan and other AEW chiefs decided to rename this wrestler ahead of Rampage.
AEW just went down the literal route with W. Morrissey.
The company has revealed that ex-WWE star Morrissey has been renamed “Big Bill”. That moniker was used to promote his appearance on Friday’s episode of Rampage alongside fellow members of The Firm like Stokely Hathaway and Lee Moriarty.
Say goodbye to W. Morrissey, but say hello to “Big Bill”.
Morrissey even changed his Twitter profile to reflect the switch, and it seems he’ll be referred to as “Big Bill” (or maybe even just “Bill”) by the announcers from now on. This, quite clearly, is a bid to move him closer to the old Big Cass ring-name he used in WWE.
Fans have already been critical of the change on social media. Many believe that Tony Khan wasted his time by even switching things up at all, and several others blasted notions that promoting The Firm for Rampage would draw viewers in.
Big Bill debuted in AEW as part of Hathaway’s faction in late August, but he hasn’t worked a match yet. Friday’s edition of Rampage will mark his first in-ring showing since signing a contract; previously, he appeared as a one-off vs. Wardlow on the 4 May Dynamite.
