Daniel C. O’Connell, 80, of Fall River and Little Compton, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of fifty-eight years to Jane (Buffington) O’Connell. Daniel was born in Fall River the son of the late Charles and Lucy (Medeiros) O’Connell. He was a graduate of BMC Durfee High School class of 1960. Dan then earned his
Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration from the former Durfee Bradford Tech and SMU in 1964. Mr. O’Connell worked for the Fall River School Department for thirty nine years. He started teaching at the McDonough School and then spent most of his career at BMC Durfee High School, teaching business and eventually became the administrator of the business department. While teaching he was the assistant football and track coach. He also played semi professional football for the Murphy Club in New Bedford and the Cobras in Middleboro. Dan then earned his Master’s in Education from Providence College in 1976. He was also a camp counselor at the Catholic Boys Day Camp in Westport. Mr. O'Connell was a life time member of the Fall River Lodge of Elks #118. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, his Scottish terrier dogs, watching a good sunset and bird watching from his sunroom, going to South Shore beach, reading a good book and teaching his passion for fishing to his nieces and nephews. Survivors besides his wife are a sister: Carol Brickhill of Little Compton; two brothers: Robert Pacheco and his wife Evelyn of Fall River; Michael O’Connell and his wife Lisa of Seekonk; sister in laws: Pauline Dooley and her husband Sean of Westport; Carol Buffington of Patton, ME; brother in law: William S. Buffington of Fall River. He was the brother of the late Raymond Pacheco and brother in law of the late Peter Brickhill. Calling hours for Mr. O’Connell will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 9am to 11am with a Funeral Service following at 11am in the Hathaway Home for Funerals, 1813 Robeson Street, Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River. Memorial donations in his memory can be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
