Francis “Hank” J. Harrington, age 86, of Swansea passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday January 11, 2023. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Francis and Frances (Shea) Harrington and devoted husband of Catherine “Pat” (McCarty) Harrington of 63 years. Hank was a Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School graduate of class of 1955. After high school he enlisted in the Army where he served during the Korean War from February of 1956 until December of 1957. He was in the 7th Division 32nd Infantry and later moved to the 8th Army where he drove tractor trailers. After he returned from the service, he met the love of his life Catherine at Horseback Beach in Westport. Hank worked at Rothwell Foundry for 18 years and finished his working career as a bus driver at the age 81. He also enjoyed going for rides on his bicycle and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children: Timothy J. Harrington (wife Melissa), and Brian F. Harrington (wife Melissa), daughter in law Michelle Harrington, grandchildren: Kelsey, Keriden, Aliyah, Mae Lynn, and Ian and several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Patrick H. And Michael T. Harrington and brother of the late Mary Theresa McCann-Horne.
Calling hours for Francis will take place on Saturday, January 21st, from 10 AM- 12PM at the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals 900 Buffinton St., Somerset. with a service immediately following at 12. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org or to The Special Olympics www.support.specialolympics.org.
